Welcome to Plates and Pedals, a blog about food and cycling!
Why I Started this Blog
I first started this blog as a newsletter for my friends and families during the 2025 Giro d’Italia. I was inspired by the Giro’s comprehensive route through Italy (going through 20 of the 24 regions) to cook a regional dish for each stage of the Giro d’Italia. Since I was doing all the work to research each stage to find regional dishes, I figured I might as well create a blog to catalogue my process as well.
As a cycling fan it gave me a good reason to watch each stage more intently and improved my appreciation of stage races. As a home cook (and a picky eater!) it helped me try new foods and recipes and really led me to become a better cook through this experimentation.
What to Expect
Given how much fun I had with my first newsletter, I decided to attempt to maintain this more long term, continuing to write posts that connect food and cycling for the Grand Tours (like the Tour de France) and other cycling events.
Please consider subscribing to follow along for future posts that cover:
- Race highlights and recaps
- Local and regional dishes connected to each race stage
- Wine and beer pairings based on region or food
- Cycling 101 explainers, and more!
Thanks for being here! Go check out my latest posts — and maybe go on a bike ride or cook something new!
Thanks for reading!
